It really sucks being in the middle of a hiring freeze – not so much because you can’t go up, but any jobs you DO get are considered to be a ‘lateral move’ since they can’t ‘hire’ you, so you don’t get any extra for going there! I would like to get the position, but if it means giving up some money, then forget it. I don’t think any leap of faith is worth that much. I’ll have to see how it goes. I don’t know if I’ll get enough time off for what I planned to do later on this month, helping out my friend Raven, but I’ll take as many days as I can to be there for her. After all, it’s what friends are for!
Last night, I discovered that not all people are as friendly as they appear to be. I was introduced to a Japanese musician by the name of Naofumi Ishimaru, who appears to have been making music since the 80’s – much like Mari Iijima. The big difference is that Mari is a real person, and is honest about how she likes to live her life, while Nao is very introverted, and doesn’t say a whole lot….until it’s too late. I at first was interested to see what kind of music he puts out, but after meeting him and seeing the real person, I’m not so sure anymore. It kinda leaves a sour taste in your mouth when someone just goes off on one of your best friends, and then doesn’t even apologize for acting like an assbag. I was glad to see Steve today, and he brought me a card and some candy to make up for the way his friend behaved, which was sooooo sweet. I guess I had better luck getting to know the musician I did than he did.
Well….this weekend was OK in some points, and abysmal in others. I got the store site re-vamped for Raven again, which is good since now we have more help, I can concentrate on getting that done, but my friend Mochi, who flew in from Japan for NDK, didn’t come by to say “Hi” or anything. I guess I should expect as much, since I changed plans less than a week before NDK. It’s OK though because committment to friends’ needs is a bit more important than stuff like that. Tomorrow I go back to my thankless job again, which I got passed over for a special project for being too much of a bitch. They say I need to project more continuously a positive attitude (read: kiss ass as much as you possibly can) and then they’ll consider it. Gee….I hear the same farking BS from everyone all the time, and I’m starting to get just a little bit sick and tired of it. At least coffee last night was great, as some of my real friends came to see how things were going.
This weekend I’m minding my friend Raven’s store again while she’s out of town. I don’t mind doing it for her since she’s one of my good friends, and her store is quite cool. I’m passing on NDK this year to help out, and found out that my friend Mochi wants to know where it is! OK, that’s cool. I hope he’s ready to see what a real gothic clothing store is like, since that’s where I’ll be. Heck..maybe Mari Iijima will show up! Nahhh…that wouldn’t ever happen. She’s too famous for something like that kind of side-trip. I’m still bitter most days about sucky customers communicating to me about how their service sucks and we’re “out to get them” (c’mon…get a GRIP!). I haven’t done much creative lately mainly out of the fact that there are not enough hours in any given day, but that’s another rant all together. Anyone have one of those infinite improbability drives handy?
Yesterday I noticed that, despite all the events we were reminded of (you couldn’t help it, it was everywhere!), people were still the same selfish, petty people that we’ve all come to expect them to be. Maybe it’s just my view from inside a call center, but geez Louise, can’t people treat those behind the counter/terminal/E-mail addy with some God-given respect?
Oh wait…I work in customer service…never mind. What was I THINKING? Note: It’s actually customer SERVITUDE to some of them by the way you see/read/hear their attitudes.
At least I’m getting ready to do some more artistry, web-design, and who knows WHAT else! I’m gonna whip up some new business cards for my friend Raven, so that way we can get the gospel out about the store. If you don’t know about it, it’s at http://www.raveswear.cc! Make with the clicking already!
I get a kick out of my co-workers sometimes. I’ve become the “unusual fashion plate” at work, which means lots of cool gothic clothes, and I accessorize my outfits with my nice big rings and spike heels. The other day I went TOTALLY casual….blue jeans, T-shirt, sneakers…. One of my friends said “Oh my gosh, you have FLATS on today!”
I thought it hilarious that nowadays it’s totally opposite from the way it used to be. I still get compliments on my styles though. I’m glad that I can push things a bit farther than most, and still have fun most days. It takes the edge off when dealing with ranting customers who have nothing better to do than type obsceneties in my support session window. Too bad I can’t just push them the “You are an IDIOT!” flash page and be done with it.
I am so glad that my second job isn’t at a chain-store! Good Lord knows how much corporate red tape and beauracratic BS that goes on in those places. Give me a good ol’ independent store any day! Yeah, they don’t have the fancy bennies, and not the world’s highest pay, but you know what? That’s OK, cuz it’s the people that rock! Guess it doesn’t hurt to target a specific clientele either, since those people can’t get the cool stuff anywhere else but here! It’s a whole world apart from my regular job where I am the standard arrow-catcher (straight in the chest), and for the most part, never hear so much as a “Thank you” for being the stalwart employee, and sucking it up the tailpipe when customers rant at me for something that they farked up themselves!
I just wish that every sucky customer would have to spend a few days behind the counter, and then deal with the exact SAME type of people. I bet they wouldn’t last very long – then again, maybe a month would be in order, since just about anyone could put up with a week of retail hell – but a month? I don’t think so.
Today I snapped like a brittle twig in a drought, and it wasn’t pretty. I have finally had enough of the bullpucky that the rule-makers, the bitching by the subscribers, and people who have nothing better to do than to nit-pick my ass until it’s raw! I would have walked off the job, but I need the money too badly, which really chaps my hide, since I have a family to support and no longer have such a luxury – so I have to take it up the tailpipe until I can form a grievance with my supervisors, and hopefully get some action that will put me in an area where I can do my job in relative calm and peace (yeah right…like that’ll ever happen). One would think after THREE years in customer service, they might think you’re worth something, right? NOPE! It’s all a matter of how many people’s asses you can kiss like a goldfish! I’m tired of the cliques and politics, ya know? I also went off on a customer who had nothing better to do than bitch and moan, so I just read him the riot act – he pretty much shut up and listened after that – and was grateful for what he got. I guess he finally met a tech who didn’t bend over and kiss his ass. Boy that felt GOOD!
Well, I just found out that they’re doing it to us again. They are stripping people out of the chat & E-mail queues to be set back on the phones again, which grates my nerves to no discernable end. People just don’t seem to understand that I hate listening to people with their whiny little voices bitching about how their service sucks and our company is “out to get them” (see my rant about this little issue). I’m still wishing I could find a job that pays as well as I get nowadays, but I doubt I’ll find such a golden egg without sacrificing the chicken first. I think after dealing with customer service jobs for 15+ plus years, I’m getting a little tired of it and want something better. Some of my friends are being made fun of on an anti-company site that I found, so I might launch a protest against the website provider and see about getting them to take it down. It’s a chicken-crap maneuver, and not very tastefully done either. I won’t provide a link here, as I’m not going to give them any free publicity – which is what I’m sure that person wants anyway.
