Remember the movie Dune? No….not that crappy half-assed version that was done by Sci-Fi channel that was drier to watch than the Arrakean desert…..I’m talking about the 1984 David Lynch version! You know…the one with Kyle MacLachlan and Sting?
You know there’s a 3-hour version of this one, right?
When it was shown on Sci-Fi, it was billed as “4-hour”, but that was because of the commercial breaks. Take away the commercials, and it’s a little over 3 hours. It’s rare to find, and harder than heck to get, although there are rumblings that perhaps David Lynch may be helping to work on a new DVD version that’s extended since only the standard 2-hour version is available in that format. I ran into good luck in Denver when LaserLand had the extended version on LaserDisc!
It took about 8 months of constant pleading and offering, but he finally agreed to sell it to me (he had it in as a rental-only selection), but sold it he did, and have it I now do! Ever since that wonderful day, I watch it once in a while just to relive the wonder of a far-away planet that has nothing to do with the Federation, the Force, or strangely-broken family relationships. Just pure sci-fi bliss!
