OK….I’ve heard enough viewpoints on why illegal immigrants should be given a chance, so let’s go about it this way. If an illegal immigrant is found in the US, they are given a choice (let’s leave this in their court):
-They obtain a green card, so at least we know they are here, and therefore, are accountable to pay taxes, and eventually gain citizenship while being here. You know….earn and learn, and then graduate – something like that anyway.
-Learn enough to have a basic understanding of how to read, write, and speak American English (argue all you want – this is the recognized language of the US). This also enables the immigrant to be better able to communicate with more people, and have a better chance of succeeding.
-They can opt out, and be returned across the border to Mexico and identified, so if they try and sneak in again, then they can be prosecuted.
I would think this would be a fair and equitable solution to the issue, and would allow those who are here to have a LEGAL chance to gain citizenship. After all, the biggest gripe is they don’t pay taxes (yes, there are still cases, although there are more that do pay). It’s many times harder for a US citizen to gain citizenship in Mexico or Canada, so if we’re going to have something that at least has accountability, then I think this might be the route to go – leave it in their hands if they want to stay or not. If they do, then fine…..here is your roadmap.
