Those of you who have been reading this blog have seen the recent “Nail Files” entries, and my style experimentations, and today, all of this has culminated in a major win for me!
I’ve had my new acrylic nails for going on 3 weeks now, and have not heard any flak or negative comments from ANYone, but have had numerous compliments from the ladies on how nice they look, so today, I pulled out my nicest shirt – which is black velvet and has gold & red Chinese dragons all over it (I can’t even find one anywhere else anymore), and decided to wear my 3″ wedge-heel boots to complete the look. I walked into work feeling very confident, but a bit conscious due to my boundary-pushing…..but all that worry was for naught, as nothing happened.
After a meeting we had, I decided to ask my supervisor point-blank if she had any issue with anything I was wearing. She said I looked very nice, admired the asian influence of the shirt, and said I did very well. I then asked if there was any issue with the boots, and showed her the 3″ wedge on the back. She didn’t even flinch and said she saw NO problem with them whatsoever, and thought it was a perfect choice, because if I was going to wear that at work, then it’s a very low-key style that doesn’t draw a lot of attention.
Wow….that just floored me. Here I was expecting criticism and being told it wasn’t appropriate, and instead, I hear ACCEPTANCE! That just made my day in so many ways, you wouldn’t believe it.
So now I’ll be hunting for other luscious tops to wear, and my nails & boots will become a regular part of my attire!
EDIT: This is even better! The night supervisor asked me why I decided to make a change, and I told him I was looking to find a happy medium that mixed professional attire with my style tastes, and I believe I’ve found my happy ground. He told me that my appearance is a big step up from what I’ve been doing! He liked the way I looked too, and also saw no problems with my choices!
Am I really experiencing this? Is this for real? Yep….it is, and I am SO glad!
