I was reading back through the many many pages of archives on my Livejournal, and realize that in just the past few years, there have been many changes, many areas of growth, and many realizations – some good, some bad, and some that just were. I’ve learned that in order to get somewhere in a job, you have to love what you do, and know when to duck under the radar when the bullets start flying (not that there are any here, thank goodness).
I’ve learned how to co-ordinate my wardrobe into a more androgynous look that still looks very sharp, and draws no ill will from anyone – much the opposite, actually! I’ve learned to appreciate what I have and where I am, and know I have some really good friends that have remained in my life all these years. I’ve learned never to do work for your friends, because it seriously does mess things up personally, and it’s just not a good thing to get wrapped up into. Lots of bad juju there, folks.
I would like to be back in a big city again, but at least there is no rush to get there now, as I can take vacations, and can drive to one within a day’s travel if need be. For now though, while we’re not flush, we’re not starving by a longshot. Yes, the economy sucks, but hey…that’s life. I learned not to depend on overtime, as it can end at any one point, but all that was just going towards credit cards – nothing like something ending to make you make choices as to what’s important. My credit sucked anyway, so what the hell, right? It’s not like you NEED credit to rent an apartment here, although I hear they do credit checks in larger cities (what the hell?). Okay…so maybe I won’t be moving anytime soon.
I’ve also learned over the years that the public school system is shot to hell in a handbasket, and homeschooling is on a meteoric rise thanks to it. I’d love to see what our new President plans on doing about our decaying education “system”. I doubt I’ll see any miracles, but you never know.
Oh, and maybe I obsess about fashion a little bit – just a tiny bit. LOL! Okay, maybe that did qualify for “understatement of the year”, huh?
2009 is off to a good start – I just hope it stays that way. I’d love to put in more positive entries this go around.
