It seems the consumerist side of our nature takes over more of our lives each day.
Remember back when we were grateful for what we had, and didn’t think about wanting more? It seems those thoughts have pretty much gone out of the window for the majority of people – at least the ones I see, and it’s more about thinking that since something new and shiny is out, then we must have it at all costs – and right now to boot!
I’ve had to take a good hard look at what my patterns have been recently, and I think it’s been taking over my life as well, and I have to sit back and think “Wait……..I DO have enough, and don’t NEED any more”. I should be grateful for what I do have, and not worry about acquiring more while I already have enough of most things.
I was watching TV today when I woke up and found myself watching the miniseries “The Bible”, and it made me think, as thoughts around the life of Jesus and what the Lord has in store for us generally do, and I thought back to what they had to work with and how times were hard for them back then. Their world in those days was a lot harsher than it is today. Even in the poorest of communities in our country, we still have it a lot better than they did back then, yet are we grateful for it? Usually not – we want more, and we want it now.
I think this type of ego-centric, entitled mentality will end up being the undoing of us all someday if we’re not careful.
