I don’t like weeds……never have, never really will. I think I just have bad luck with weeds, particularly thistle-bushes as I call them because they are prickly whenever you go to pull them. They’re not like cactus, but they are stickly (is that a word?), which makes them tough to pull up.
I looked out in my backyard, and I’ve been thinking of methods I could employ to make my backyard a bit nicer, but so far, I haven’t thought of much. I have a lawn mower, but that doesn’t get it all. I had a weed-whacker, but the last one bit the dust, and I don’t have enough money in order to go and get a new one. For my druthers, I’d love to go and get a gas-powered weed-eater and a nice tough attachment on it so that way I could get rid of the weeds much more efficiently.
Those things take money though – something that’s always in short supply, it seems.
I would have thought about paving over the backyard with concrete and make a nice deck, but the square footage of the area would be well above my budget, so that’s out of the question. Paver stones are equally cost-prohibitive, and I think the weeds would just grow through them. I’ve thought about putting a tarp below the stones/gravel, but not sure how well that would work either. I would love to just have a nice lawn of just grass, so that way we could put out lawn chairs or other accessories for the summer.
I"m going to start looking over DIY options as far as how to make over my back yard – something I can easily do on a budget, and then tackle it one thing at a time. I MIGHT do paver stones over in the small area closest to the house though……that may be a workable solution. It’s not big – I can line it with brick, and can put a small tarp over the ground to keep the weeds from growing through.
Yeah…….it’s a start at least…….and that’s something.
