This is my first attempt at an actual review, so I thought I’d hit it off with a relatively recent title – Watch Dogs!
This game is out for multiple platforms, but I played it on the PS4. You play as Aiden Pearce – a guy whose sister was killed by an ordered hit, and now he’s out to find out by who and why.
The cool thing I enjoy most about this game is how much the city becomes your personal arsenal, from exploding generators and steam pipes to being able to close your enemies out of an area just by locking the gate behind them (they forgot their own codes?).
As you unlock more of the city by hacking cell towers, more objectives become open to you – from ferrying stolen cars to taking out targets to busting gang hideouts, you’ll always find something to do. There are even games like find the cup under the ball, card games, chess, and drinking games.
The game play I found very solid. Once you get the controls down, you become a very able hacker. The driving control varies, depending on what vehicle you’re driving, which is to be expected – much like real life.
The graphics are just beautiful, from the detail in the city and the country, to the day/night change and how it looks when it rains.
My only real gripe is sometimes the difficulty curve is all over the place, but perhaps that’s intentional to get you to think outside of the box. Some of the driving could use a bit more even control though.
There are online components that are there as well, such as other players trying to hack you, forcing you to try and find them before they take you out, and you can even mess with other players using the ctOS Mobile App for IOS and Android devices, so those throw in some unexpected twists to the mix.
If you love an open-world game that offers a LOT of diverse things to do and see, then Watch Dogs is for you.
My rating: 9.0 out of 10. Well worth the price!
