It goes without saying that in most parts of the world that are not in an equatorial region that yes, eventually, winter will come around. Anyone who is of driving age knows this, yet it seems the same problems rear their heads every year.
Now I’m used to looney, crazy drivers that think they know it all, but put snow under them, and they just get that much more stupid. People sliding about, thinking they are hot shots….until they tie their ride into a knot around a tree. They think they can speed like on dry land…..until they hit a hard reminder of mortality and not make it at all. Pedestrians have it even worse. Drivers seem to have more tunnel vision than during the warm months, therefore they watch for people walking even less.
Any time you go on a highway in the winter time, you can be sure of usually finding at least one car in the ditch. Sometimes, it’s just dumb luck with a patch of ice…..but often times it’s due to plain carelessness. Back in the day, it was common to see a good samaritan stop and offer aid, but nowadays with dishonest people on the rise, more often than not, no one stops out of fear they will be robbed or carjacked. It’s not pretty, but it does seem to be the way of the world.
Since we are in winter in my part of the world, please remember this thought. When you go and drive to spend time with friends and family, be sure to take a little more time so you can always be aware of your surroundings. Those people out there you see want to do the same thing. Have a Happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas.
