I started this off as a Facebook post, but as many of my long-winded dissertations tend to not start off intending to be one, I stopped myself and moved it over here.
At one point, I maintained a couple of websites in order to show off my columns, stories, pictures, and other fun things…..BUT…..with the explosion of the various types of social media, I have to ask myself if continuing to put money into a site is even worth it.
WordPress and Facebook are my mainstays. WordPress is where I put many of my longer thoughts, and it pushes out links to Facebook, Twitter, and Tunblr, which I also use. Facebook is like my living room in cyberspace. This is where I keep in touch with family and friends, join social groups, and share things I find interesting.
The huge draw to these things is that they are accessible from anywhere….pretty much, anyway. I enjoy sharing what I experience in life, and even though I don’t live in a major metro hub like many of my friends do, these outlets make it seem not quite as small as it used to – and I can even show friends things going on around my home area that they may not get to see otherwise since the news sites don’t cover everything.
I have very wide-reaching, eclectic tastes (as many of you already know), and I like sharing what I find, and perhaps people who read, hear, and see what I share may enjoy them as well.
I am considering starting up a new project using YouTube, but that may have to wait until I get a PC to do video editing with, but it’s kind of like a video journal of things I remember around Billings and Laurel – the two cities I spent the most time around.
I guess the whole main point of this is…..regular websites, while they are great for many things, may not be for me as much anymore – mainly due to them requiring cost and manual updating, where social media is here – constant for the most part, and easy to access.
Will everyone like what I post? Well, that’s pretty unrealistic, but it’s there for those who wish to read, hear, or see it. It’s where I get to be creative and discuss things that I find intriguing – and I invite you, the curious reader, along for the ride.
One last note…….there is one other project I am working on, and when it’s done, it’ll be available on Amazon – but that’s the only hint on that for now. Peace to all.
