People will tell you that the dumb people are behind the counter, but I disagree…..it’s those that stand in FRONT of the counter that are the ones that have so many logic flaws, it would unbalance the space-time continuum. Some days I just want to go to all those young kids who buy their grandparents a computer and then not educate them on how to use one and just smack ’em upside the head with the Clue-By-Four of vengeance. I’ve probably posted and reposted this topic on here more times than any other subject, but it never ceases to amaze me on how PERVASIVE those types of people really are! I guess ignorance breeds even more ignorance. I go down some streets and always notice how EMPTY the sidewalks are nowadays. Makes me want to do it now, because there seems to be no one else DOING it! If they exercise, they pay through the nose and go to a health club, but…..what about going out for a nice walk outside, or ride a bike, or do something where you’re out in the great outdoors?
Oh yeah….it’s not instant gratification. I guess we forgot the simpler things that actually took effort, and you didn’t see the results right away. There was such a thing as waiting for something, but that seems to have sailed out the window as well. Oh yeah…back to walking. The other thing I notice is that, when you’re crossing the street, people will edge their cars behind you, wait until you *just* get out of the way, and then barrel around the corner, often times screeching their tires. I guess it was worth them peeling 200 miles off their tread to make that little statement. Same goes for going into a shopping center. You could see the yellow PEDESTRIAN lines painted very brightly across the way, but try to actually USE them, and you risk getting run over by some impatient rapper-ghetto-wannabe or soccer mom, that you need to execute one of those perfect stunt dives in order to make it across and roll out of the way in time. Otherwise you might become part of the grill of that 34,000 dollar urban assault vehicle.
People-have-lost-their-patience…that’s what it boils down to. They not only want it now, but if you can’t read their minds then heaven help you if you missed one point they were thinking very loudly about. I truly feel sorry for those who work in the customer service industry nowadays unless they’ve done it since the days when 8-track tapes were in vogue. People don’t sit back in any eatery and enjoy their food anymore…they’re in too much of a rush! They don’t sit back and enjoy anything anymore because they’re too busy cramming their day with getting as much done as possible. I wonder nowadays, if people actually play….BOARD games anymore. I remember the novelty at the time when they made BOARD games BASED on VIDEO games! Now that was novel! I liked that idea! Sadly it didn’t last though. I guess that truly was a different time and place. Makes me want to go browse the board games to see what is out now. Maybe they revived a good classic that might be…….fun, again!
I wonder if people ever do that experiment where they turn off the TV for a full day and do other things….and I wonder how many people can actually DO it anymore. I know some that I work with that might be able to do that, and some others who also know other things to do in order to occupy their time. I bet if you ask the new crop of high schoolers, they probably wouldn’t know how to make use of their time with anything that didn’t require electricity or instant access.
Perhaps it truly was a different age. Gads…I think my parents said the same thing!
