I remember when posting thoughts online was about posting what you thought, you felt, or what you wanted to say. I started off my journey on my own website way back in the day, but then I found a site called “MySpace” – my first foray into the whole social networking paradigm. I thought “Cool! A place to socially gather and share thoughts and conversation!”.
This thought turned into a quagmire of apps, customizations, games, and pointless throw-ups of pictures that really didn’t mean anything. It got mucky, disorganized, and just didn’t have that appeal anymore. Needless to say, I don’t visit that place much anymore.
Then there was Facebook – a nice, well-organized place to share little tidbits of your life with your friends. Granted, it has really helped with getting back in touch with a lot of various people all over the globe – but lately, it too, thanks to the many re-iterations of layout changes, has also dissolved into a mire of posting of random pictures of whatever – the most annoying ones are ones of buttons and sayings that are incorporated into a picture – just words – no actual picture. I guess I rather enjoyed when people typed stuff in, and didn’t just link pictures.
I’ve also done LiveJournal and WordPress, both of which do what they do well – blogging! Since I’ve procured my own website once again though, I’ve taken the best of those worlds and just incorporated them into my site itself!
Granted, I rather enjoy pictures – just not stupid ones. Then again, the word “stupid” is a perceptual thing, as one person’s stupidity may be another person’s delight. To each their own, I suppose. I guess that’s why I enjoy being able to make my own website – my own corner of reality to shape into my own image – and then people have a choice – to come and see, or not to come and go elsewhere. Life is about choices, and we all have to make our own.
Oh, I’m not abandoning Facebook, even though I really don’t care for the latest reorganization. It’s kind of like the old saying of “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it” – yet they don’t listen to the common person. They’ll just do what they want to do. After all, why shouldn’t they? It’s THEIR site – they’ll do it THEIR way! It’s THEIR choice – right? It’s just like you choose what you wear, what music you listen to, where you spend your time…….it’s all your choice.
