I just saw this classic Zelda commercial and about bust a gut laughing! It was hilarious back then, and even better now – especially the way he says “TEKTITES”! BHA HA HA HA HA!

Wow…….I didn’t think good luck could strike twice, but I’ve found some friends here who are willing to partake in a coffee klatch here of all places! To those of my friends who think that it’s not possible in this little town, I’m pleased to say you are so mistaken. Now granted, nothing could EVER replace the original coffee klatch group of Denver, but I’m very happy that a few agreed to come out, so we’ll see how it goes. I remain very optimistic.
I’ve been scouring about trying to find some new tunes, since there are only so many times you can listen to your own stack before you just HAVE to find something fresh. The sad thing is….just about everyone out there sounds like just about everyone else! You really really really have to dig deep and dig hard to find that “good energy” sound these days, but when you DO find it, it’s truly a breath of fresh air.
I keep getting these e-mails to try IMVU.com – this 3D avatar-based chat software, so I did a little digging on it. Yeah, it’s free to sign up, but you get this incredibly small selection of features and clothes to start with. If you want to get fancy, you have to earn points or BUY them. Thought there was a catch there somewhere.
Oh…and if you want to gender-bend in the program…..BZZZZT! Sorry! Not gonna happen! Their site says their clothing items are “gender specific”, so you can’t mix and match. This is just my choice, and if you like this program, by all means go for it. I’m just not going to waste my time with customizing if they’re going to limit your choices like that.
Worlds.net I thought was a really good program, because you could do a pretty good amount of customizing with no extra expenditure. Of course, I was on BowieNet back in those days, so you got extra “perks” along with that – still, it was a nice chat tool. Other than that, I’ll just stick with my Trillian, since it does what I want it to.
I was just wowed this morning! I was playing Wii Sports Golf, and actually scored a 10 UNDER PAR! I was just shocked! I had never done that well before, and maybe I was just more relaxed than usual. It was just something that made my day right as it started. Yay!
Granted this is on a virtual 9-hole course, and I highly doubt I’d do that well on a real 18-hole course, but that’s just me. Maybe someday I’ll try, but it’s just way too expensive for me to take up right now.
There was a saying some time ago that you never mix business with pleasure. Boy, they really did know what they were talking about in those days. I think I’ve modified it to “never mix your friends/colleagues with business”. I think it’s also why I really don’t do web designing or PC work for anyone else but myself and complete strangers anymore.
I have been tinkering around on web pages for about…….oh, 14 years now, since the days of the original wbs.net and their wonderful web building program – started off with templates and add-ons, and gradually built my own HTML from the ground up. A few years later, a friend of mine introduced me to Dreamweaver, and I’ve been using it ever since. Yes, I’m a lazy programmer to some degree, and I’ll admit that. I also love Photoshop – I ADORE this program to no loving end, since it does so much so well!
I have kept up my own personal site as well as my Mari Iijima fan site for a few years now, but there were a couple of times I did sites for other people – and regretted it both times. The first time was for a goth/drag store in Denver (No…NO LINK!) where I thought the owner was willing to invest in an online presence for her store, so I did my best to make a really outstanding one that would attract attention. I did some of the pictures, heavily Photoshopped the rest (including “airbrushing” imperfections in the models), and took a LOT of time on it. I then had the “classical gaul” to ask for $1200 for the time and energy spent. Needless to say, it was one UGLY battle that I still ended up getting shafted on (not to mention lies about other agreements she made), and some short time after, she asked someone else to do it, and then not long after that, THAT site disappeared too! Gee…….wonder why……
I then had a similar experience for a shipping and receiving warehouse in California, where I did Photoshopped images and made the pages from scratch. It was a really nice site, although I really didn’t get paid what I thought it was worth either (even other webmaster said I undercut myself seriously), and then to add insult to injury, for some reason, they went back in and changed some pages back to previous versions, and now it looks like utter crap because it doesn’t all tie together like it was supposed to when I was finished. Karmic justic, I guess……
I did have one friend who always appreciated my efforts on his computer in fixing some “oopsies” that he did (like accidentally deleting the folder labelled “Windows”) – such a wonderful person through and through (thank you dracoilluminati!!!!!), but had another one totally FUBAR his machine, so I took it home, redid the OS from the ground up, got all the drivers and programs installed, and tested everything – it worked flawlessly. He gets it home, then 2 days later, tells my wife (didn’t EVEN tell me!) that I messed it all up. I’m like………ZOMGWTF-in3D! I even did it for free! Recently, I had a friend of one of my managers ask me to help fix his computer, so I did, and ended up reinstalling Windows for him as well since his Norton had really messed up his system big time. THAT one I was compensated for nicely! About an hour’s worth of work, and he offered $125! Yay! Maybe I should invest more into my A+ side and become a PC tech! Hmmmmmmmm!!!!!
So after all these bumps and bruises along the way, I just have this to say. If you ask for something for free, you get what you get. For my friends, I do extend extra effort, but please do realize it’s on my time, okay? If anyone wants me to design a site for them, then BE PREPARED to spend the money on it! HAVE some idea of what you want, and if you don’t like what I think it’s worth, then please do consult someone else.
I really must be out of the loop, because I just learned today that there is a NEW province in Canada called Nunavut. Check this out:
I had no idea they had divided the Northwest Territories, so this struck me as something totally unexpected. I knew about Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, along with the usual British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, and Yukon.
Just something I didn’t know before, but now I do………and knowing is half the battle *breaks into G.I. Joe chorus*
I think it must have been a while since I’ve had a Cadbury Caramello, but when I tried the new ones I saw at Wal-Mart, I just thought they were only a bit smaller. What I found out was the caramel inside is VERY runny, and I don’t remember it being that way before. I guess the new Irish Creme ones are the same way. Gooey, runny……ICK!
Guess that’s $1.17 lesson learned.
I think it’s funny to see how the console wars are going on – it seems the underdog is becoming the unsung hero of the battle.
In the beginning when the XBOX 360 came out, you couldn’t find it anywhere for a good couple of months – bare minimum. Not bad…..
When the PS3 came out, you couldn’t find any…..til a few days after Christmas (now they’re all over)
When the Wii came out, you couldn’t find any…..and you’re STILL having a hard time finding them!
Now granted, the major cause behind this I’m sure is the cost. Because:
XBOX 360 Silver pack (the only decent one): $400
The PS3 60GB version: $600
The Nintendo Wii: $249
Myself…I think the play mechanics on the Wii are revolutionary enough to justify getting one. I have 5 games for the Wii now: Wii Sports, Super Swing Golf, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and Super Paper Mario, and they are ALL well worth the price. Try to find that many good solid games on the PS3 right now.
Maybe someday Sony will reduce the price of the PS3, but with Blu-Ray players still raging huge prices, I doubt we’ll see that anytime soon. And XBOX? Yeah….Microsoft will keep those profit margins as high as possible. I don’t foresee any price cuts from them either.
So after checking them all out…..I really think Nintendo is gonna come out smelling like roses in this war.
I think that’s spelled right, but oh well…..guess I’m guilty of it too. I think I watch way too much CNN and other assorted news shows because I am SO sick and tired of hearing over and over and over again how Don Imus got fired. Myself? Yeah, what he said was way out of line, but in my own opinion, I think the 2-week suspension was enough. They forgave him after the fact…..too little too late, it seems….and the snowball effect I predicted as a result is surely happening. Guess it’s just our cynical view of society these days. I’m not up for debate on this, so please don’t bother. This is how I feel, and that’s it.
Perhaps I just need to take a number of days away from watching news and just watch entertainment so I can get away from the constant influx of information….and just forget about the daily worries in life, and just breathe. Maybe that’s what it is that’s getting everybody all bitter these days….too much information.
These days, when I get done with a hard day’s work, I get to relax by playing some Wii Sports Golf after the kids are in bed – just something nice and random to take my mind off of the daily communications world we all live in. Is it that people are too wired for their own good? I don’t know, and don’t really worry about it too much – but just notice that people are not as relaxed as they used to be, in the greater sense.
Oh….if you’re an artist, and want to combine drawing with computers, you might want one of these nice Cintiq tablets…..I know I DO!
On a really good note, I’m happy that I’ve been able to make some really good, interesting friends where I am now, and that makes me really happy. I now know people I can talk to, laugh with, share life about, and just have a great time overall. These people are very much cherished in my life, as are all of my really close friends, and that’s something I just really enjoy having as part of my existence, no matter where I am. To those I have known for many years, as well as those I have just met…..thank you….for being there.
