I wonder if I was an actor or musician in a previous life.
I have always enjoyed my creative talents, and I do tend to show them off whenever given a chance. I don’t know if that’s ego or just excitement to show someone something that I have done, but I do enjoy presenting something new that I’ve done to someone – just about anyone who is interested.
When I doodle a new drawing, I love to show anyone who will look and am interested in their opinion.
When I perform on a stage – any stage (tasteful ones only), I enjoy the thrill of being in the spotlight.
I was actually in a play once in high school. It was a small part – I played Uncle Henry in The Wizard Of Oz (if you can picture a 17-year-old playing an uncle). Even though the part was small, I enjoyed it quite a bit. I think today if I would have more time to devote to such things, I would probably enjoy performing on the small stage again, although I have never tried for anything major, and do have this niggling fear that I’d forget some line or something, and totally mess up the scene. Maybe that’s why I never went that direction.
Living in Denver provided me with an experience that I enjoyed probably more than most – I was involved in two or three drag shows with a group of people who were there. These were not huge productions by any means, but it got my feet wet in that arena as well, and I enjoyed it immensely, even though the others were no doubt much more proficient than I was at it. I was just in it to have fun, and in a way, it reminded me of the lip-sync competitions that they used to have when I was a teen to young adult. They don’t have those anymore, but at least now they have something even better…………..
KARAOKE! Oh yes…….this is a pretty big thing for me.
I enjoy picking a song out of a book, having the music ready for me, and I can just have fun singing the lyrics in my own voice to some song that I remember from years past. No, I don’t claim to be the world’s best musician – not by any means, BUT…….it is a lot of fun for me to get out there and belt out some song that I enjoy. I tend to do 80’s stuff, because that’s what I’m most familiar with, but if I find more recent stuff that is in their catalog, and I feel I can do a decent job at it, then I’ll tackle that too. Oh…there was a place in Denver called DJ Karaoke Studio that was DIVINE for such things. You rented a room by the hour, and each room had a couch, a table, a couple of microphones, a screen, and a song book. Now that’s what I’m talking about!
I’ll always be a doodlebug. I’ll always be looking for some cool thing to gaze at and admire. I’ll usually be up at any time for a karaoke session (unless my throat hurts). I always have loved being expressive……and most likely always will.
